Designing Along With Project Runway

Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved to design my own fashion ideas. When Project Runway came along, the little fashion girl in me was over-the-moon. I decide to draw my own fashions along with the contestants - within the parameters of the challenge. About 20 minutes into the show they would issue the main challenge. That’s when I started drawing what I would design if I were a contestant myself. Each drawing took about 30 minutes. They are a bit bare bones but i wanted to use my time to focus on the details as i am a huge details freak. I tried to stick as closely to my own personal aesthetic as I could. Growing up, my fashion style was heavily influenced by punk rock and rap (think Missy Elliot, and The Clash. The Clash - mostly all black with zippers, rivets, buckles, leather, etc. Missy - oversized, monochromatic, long strips of fabric, jewelry, sunglasses, etc. I was never a label queen. To me, fashion is all about self-expression rather than repping a designer brand. I would definitely be known as a Street Style designer; gritty, moody, current but no fads, edgy, and tough, with a bit of softness thrown in there every once in a while. The following illustrations are some of the ones I drew during Project Runway in real time. Each image represents the challenge subjects such as an outfit for Cyndi Lauder(the black, white, and red outfit), an outfit with your art on it (the big pink flower dress), an outfit that represents your heritage (the cream colored outfit inspired by traditional Finnish clothing), among others.
